Bai Chay is not a destination for those who like wild tourist destinations because this place was precisely built by humans. In Bai Chay, in addition to the sandy beach stretching over 500m and hundreds of meters wide, there is also a strip of hills running gently towards the sea, with rows of ancient pine trees creating a natural beauty for this place.

Bai Chay tourist area has been planned to become the most beautiful tourist area in Ha Long city, including restaurants, water puppetry and traditional music performances, Royal international park, windsurfing and motorcycling services on the sea.

There are many legends about the name Bai Chay. Many people often say that Bai Chay is the place where the Yuan-Mongol army’s food ships led by Truong Van Ho invaded Vietnam and were burned by Tran Khanh Du and the Tran Dynasty’s army and people and drifted ashore. Because many enemy ships were burned, the northeast wind blew the fire to the western shore of Cua Luc, burning the dry forest. That burned forest became Bai Chay today.

There is also another folk legend that in the past, boats often anchored on the beach west of Cua Luc. The bottom and sides of the boats often had barnacles clinging very firmly and could destroy the boats, so the fishermen had to burn casuarina leaves around them. From Hon Gai and other places, looking in there, one could always see the fire burning brightly, so this place was called Bai Chay.
