1. History of Kaiserdom beer

Germany’s Upper Franconia region in northern Bavaria has the highest number of breweries per capita in the world, with around 200 independent breweries within its borders. Nine of those breweries can be found in the southwestern town of Bamberg, including Schlenkerla and the brewery that stands out to this day, the Kaiserdom Privatbrauerei.

The history of beer production in Bamberg dates back to 1039, with the brewery that would become the Kaiserdom being founded almost seven centuries later – in 1718, by a brewer named Georg Morg, who was given permission to brew beer for a tavern owned by the St. Michelsberg monastery.

The brewery was purchased in 1910 by Georg Wörner. Today it is owned by his grandson, a graduate of Weihenstephan University. The brewery has changed its name several times in its history, with the name Kaiserdom appearing for the first time in 1972. Today, Kaiserdom is one of the most successful privately owned breweries in Germany, with products shipped to 6 continents and over 50 countries. The Kaiserdom brewery’s regular beer range includes hefe weissbier, dark lager, kellerbier and their most popular – pilsner.

2. Ingredients of Kaiserdom beer

Although the 4.7% ABV Kaiserdom is made with just four ingredients: malt, hops, water and yeast, German brewers have invented an astonishing number of beer styles. As a result, the differences between styles can sometimes be subtle.

Ingredients of Kaiserdom beer
Kaiserdom beer is produced with only 4 ingredients: malt, hops, water and yeast.

The signature style today, kellerbier (“cellar beer”), like many German lagers, is aged for months at low temperatures and showcases the malt on hops. The difference with Kaiserdom kellerbier comes from the fact that it is brewed in open vats with active yeast, allowing the remaining carbon dioxide formed during fermentation to escape rather than dissolve into the liquid. As a result, Kaiserdom kellerbier has a relatively low carbonation. The finished product is also unfiltered, resulting in a very cloudy beer, which derives from the suspended proteins. The sediment in Kaiserdom kellerbier can also give the beer a yeasty, bread-dough flavor. This is a desirable quality in some styles, perhaps most commonly in German wheat beers. Although relatively rare outside Germany, Kaiserdom kellerbier is a popular choice among patrons at local beer gardens in Franconia, where it is often served straight from the cask in terracotta mugs.

3. Appearance, aroma and taste of Kaiserdom beer

When poured, Kaiserdom appears cloudy and has a dark orangey amber colour with a thick, pale white head. The aroma is floral, spicy hops and yeasty white bread with a hint of caramel after warming. There are plenty of delicious, sweet bread malts in the flavour.

The hop bitterness is light and the hop aroma is floral, herbal and a little earthy. There is some sourness from the yeast. Lots of grainy malt lingers in the aftertaste. Sediment and low carbonation give the Kaiserdom its creamy texture and very light body.

Drink Kaiserdom cold over ice and you’ll experience a sharp, uncharacteristic bitterness that gives way to a round, sweet malt flavor with a light hop flavor at the end.

4. How much does a Kaiserdom beer cost?

Kaiserdom beer gift box of 12 cans of 500ml has a reference price of 495,000 VND/box.

Kaiserdom beer gift box is a collection of the top delicious beers of Kaiserdom beer manufacturer. With beautiful design and reasonable specifications (12 cans divided into 4 flavors), each can has a different flavor, bringing a unique experience to the drinker. If dark lager is famous for its delicious black beer, pilsner stands out with its rich hop flavor. Hefe weibbier is a light and delicious wheat beer flavor, or unique with unfiltered beer kellerbier. No matter what the flavor, Kaiserdom brings the drinker an impressive taste.

5. Conclusion

Overall, the Kaiserdom is a simple but good beer. It’s unpretentious, but clean and satisfying. If you’re really into malty beers, this one won’t disappoint. The firm, delicious malt is reminiscent of bock – semi-sweet and toffee-like – but not as strong. The yeast and slight hop bitterness give the Kaiserdom Kellerbier a slight sourness, like sourdough, which offsets the overwhelming bready malt.

You can try a few cans of Kaiserdom beer with a plate full of cold cuts and feel it for yourself before buying a box of 12 cans of 500ml Kaiserdom beer as a gift on the occasion of the New Year of the Cat 2023.
