Leffe is an elegant, smooth and fruity Belgian abbey style beer. It has a spicy aftertaste with a hint of bitter orange, making it suitable for vegetarians. In the Vietnamese market, Leffe offers two types of beer: Leffe Blonde and Leffe Brune.

1. History of formation and development of Leffe beer
The Leffe Brewery began when the Leffe monks of the Premonstratensian Order began growing hops, milling grain and brewing beer at the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Leffe in the Belgian province of Namur in the 13th century. After surviving the flooding of the Muese River in 1460 and then a major fire 6 years later, the brewery began to prosper in the 17th century. Leffe beer became renowned for the quality of its beer and the Belgian brewery was expanded and renovated at this time.

During World War I, the original Leffe brewing kettles were melted down for ammunition. With the expert assistance of brewer Albert Lootvoet, Leffe brown ale was reintroduced in 1952. Interbrew – now AB-InBev – later acquired Lootvoet’s operations in Overijse, Belgium.
Today, AB-InBev produces five top-fermented “abbey” beers under the Leffe brand: blonde, dark (also known as Leffe dark), Leffe 9°, triple and radieuse (also known as vieille cuvée). All five Leffe beers are now brewed at Stella Artois’ much larger facility in Leuven, with the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Leffe receiving royalties from their sales. The Leffe beers are all filtered and tend to have a sweeter finish on the palate.
Backed by the market access of the world’s largest Belgian brewer, Leffe beer is now available in over 60 countries worldwide. AB-InBev maintains a small museum opposite the abbey that is open to visitors from April to October. Many of the buildings still standing at the abbey, including the church, date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
2. Flavour and aroma of Leffe beer
An approachable, easy-drinking Leffe beer that is sure to please many palates with its mouthfeel and refined overall character. Aromas and subtle flavors of cloves, white pepper and freshly baked bread rise to the nose and palate, enhanced by medium carbonation. A lingering malty sweetness lingers on the palate as you swallow the beer.
