TCL 65C645 TV review: Perfect inheritance and notable highlights

With Google TV operating system and many attractive features, TCL 65C645 is aimed at the mid-range segment, promising to bring a great viewing experience at a reasonable price.

1. Exquisite, modern design

TCL TV 65C645 Impresses at first sight with a minimalist but no less luxurious design. Installation is extremely simple, just place television onto the base. The stand is designed to be adjustable in width, suitable for many different types of tables and TV shelves, including tables with limited width. The V-shaped base design, although no longer circular like the previous version but changed to a rectangular shape, still ensures sturdiness and modernity.

Maintaining the ultra-thin bezel design style of the TCL C635, the TCL 65C645 provides a complete viewing experience, uninterrupted by bezels. Although there is still a screen border of about 6mm, it almost does not affect the user experience, especially with large screens. The TCL logo is placed simply on the bottom border, different from the previous design with the Onkyo logo. With LCD screen material, the thickness of the TV is not as thin as OLED, reaching 8cm at the thickest position and only about 4.5cm in the metal frame. The finished quality of the product is very high, without any significant defects.

TCL 65C645 is also easy to install on the wall thanks to the hanging hole system compatible with VESA 300 x 300 standard. The connection port is neatly arranged on the side, not obstructing when hanging the TV close to the wall. The remote control has also been improved, from two to a single one, but with additional numeric buttons, helping users operate more quickly and conveniently.

2. Vivid, realistic image quality

4K TV TCL 65C645 uses a VA (Vertical Alignment) LCD panel with Direct LED backlight technology and QLED quantum dot screen, allowing for Ultra HD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. The advantage of VA panels is the ability to reproduce high contrast (about 5000:1), superior to IPS panels. However, unlike the C745 and C845 lines, TCL 65C645 is not equipped with Local Dimming technology.

The colors on the TCL 65C645 are not as vibrant as the TCL C835, but still deliver sharp and impressive images. AiPQ Engine 3.0 image processing technology helps upgrade content to 4K resolution smoothly. Motion compensation is not as high as the C735 series, however, it is still good enough to limit ghosting on fast moving objects.

TCL 65C645 offers many different picture modes such as: “Dynamic”, “Standard”, “HDR Enhancement”, “Sport”, “Cinema” and “Game”. “Cinema” mode provides the most accurate color quality. With SDR content, the average Delta E deviation reaches 3.06, slightly higher than the threshold of 3 – the level at which it is difficult for the naked eye to distinguish between standard colors and colors displayed on the screen. The average color temperature is about 6865K, slightly lower than the ideal 6500K. The average Gamma value reaches 2.45.

For HDR content, the TCL 65C645 supports HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision formats. However, the TCL 65C645’s HDR processing ability is inferior to higher-end product lines, because it does not meet HDR 1000 certification and the maximum brightness only reaches 450 nits. “Cinema” mode with HDR Pro still produced the best results, with an average Delta E of 1.96, less than 3, indicating high color accuracy right from the factory settings.

3. Smooth, lag-free gaming experience

According to the manufacturer, QLED TV TCL 65C645 has an input latency of only 6ms, among the lowest on the market today. The TV supports gaming optimization technologies such as VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (auto low latency mode). There’s also AMD FreeSync support.

The screen’s scan frequency is 60Hz, but has 120Hz Game Accelerator technology. This is DLG (Double Gate Loop) technology, combined with dual frame rates, creating a 120Hz refresh rate effect, but the resolution will automatically switch back to 1080p. TCL 65C645 is also equipped with the Game Master interface, which helps customize gaming settings easily and effectively.

4. Google TV operating system is smooth and friendly

Smart TV TCL 65C645 uses the Google TV operating system Android 11 version, with an intuitive, friendly and easy-to-use interface. The home screen displays movie recommendations based on previous viewing history, along with many other entertainment content options. There is a separate section for installable applications. Location of applications can be customized. The search bar is located at the top, with sections organized by topic: Movies, TV Shows, Apps, and Library. Library displays a list of content purchased on the Google platform.

Next to the main screen, the settings button on the remote allows access to the settings menu, creating a Google account, customizing parameters, viewing viewing history, selecting recorded programs or adjusting picture modes. Notifications are also displayed here. Intuitive, easy-to-use interface, no need to search through complicated submenus. The system’s response ability is quick and the Android application store is extremely rich.

Some of the pre-installed apps include: TCL Channel, web browser, health app, etc. The TCL Home interface displays a menu in the upper right corner, allowing access to the photo gallery, media player, and Safety Guard security software.

Voice control function is integrated on the TCL 65C645, allowing you to control the TV without using the remote control, thanks to the microphone mounted on the underside of the TV. Miracast integration allows for wireless transmission of your phone or screen tablet onto the big screen.

5. Sound is clear but lacks power

The sound is audible enough, but not strong enough (Photo: Dien May Cho Lon).

The TCL 65C645’s sound system includes two downward-facing speakers with a total capacity of 20W. The TV supports Dolby Atmos and DTS. The overall sound is quite flat, but voice is very clear. The virtual surround sound effect is not strong. Lacking a subwoofer, sounds in the low frequency range are not well represented. To improve sound quality, TCL recommends using additional soundbars, such as TCL S642W (2.1ch) and TCL S643W (3.1ch).

6. Diverse connection capabilities

The 65C645’s connection port list has some differences compared to the previous version. There are three HDMI ports (one HDMI 2.1 with eARC), one USB 3.0 port, one antenna port, one optical digital audio output, one AV Composite input (via adapter), and a LAN port. Connect to the internet via dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0.

7. Conclusion

Google TV QLED TCL 4K 65 inches 65C645 is one of the best mid-range 65-inch TVs on the market. The Google TV operating system is smart, easy to use, and the QLED screen provides sharp image quality and accurate colors. HDR processing ability is limited, but still good in the price segment. If you are looking for an affordable TV with good picture quality and features, the TCL 65C645 is a choice worth considering.
