Overview of Yen Tu tourism

Yen Tu Mountain is one of the mountains in the Dong Trieu range, located on the border between Bac Giang and Quang Ninh provinces. Yen Tu began to become a center of Buddhism when King Tran Nhan Tong renounced the throne, donned the monk’s robe here and founded the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect.

Yen Tu Mountain is about 130 km from Hanoi, so this place has become a very popular tourist destination for 2 days 1 night or during the day in the North. In Yen Tu, there is a Spring Festival, usually held every year starting on January 10 and lasting until the end of the third lunar month. How to get to Yen Tu mountain

Yen Tu Mountain is 130km from Hanoi, 40km from Hai Phong, not too far if you want to travel by motorbike. If you ride a motorbike, there are two routes for you to travel, one is Hanoi – Uong Bi, the other is Hanoi – Hai Phong, however you need to know the route otherwise it will be easy to get confused.

If you follow the Hanoi – Uong Bi route: You follow the direction of Chuong Duong Bridge – Nguyen Van Cu – Bac Ninh City and then follow Highway 18, go straight and you will see Trinh Yen Tu Temple…

If you follow the Hanoi – Hai Phong route: You follow Highway 5, go to km 14 of Highway 5 about 94km, to Quan Toan. Then go straight and turn left at the first intersection (turn right to get on the bridge, turn left then go straight) and turn left at the fourth intersection, this total distance is 6km and you will reach the foot of Kien bridge. Next, go along Highway 10 to the left turn, about 2km to Trinh Yen Tu temple.

Besides traveling by motorbike, you can also travel by bus. Because to go to Yen Tu Pagoda, you also have to climb the mountain, so this method will help you save energy. To take a bus, you can go to My Dinh bus station, catch buses such as Khumho Viet Thanh, Duc Phuc, Ka Long, Van Minh… If you want to travel to Yen Tu during the day, it is best to go early in the morning, around At 4 am, it takes 3-4 hours to reach Yen Tu.

How to climb Yen Tu mountain

Once you arrive at Yen Tu, you will begin the pilgrimage to the Ancestral Land by climbing to the top and then going to Dong Pagoda to burn incense. To get to Yen Tu Mountain, you can go by cable car or walk. If you don’t feel strong enough to climb, go by cable car. Yen Tu Mountain has two cable car lines.

Places to visit on the Yen Tu pilgrimage route

Tour itinerary: Zen monastery – Giai Oan bridge – Giai Oan pagoda – Hoa Yen pagoda – Mot Mai pagoda – Bao Sai pagoda – An Ky Sinh and Buddha statue – Dong pagoda

– Trinh Pagoda: Before reaching the foot of Yen Tu mountain, you will pass Trinh pagoda, so stop by here to burn incense.

– Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen Monastery: In Vietnam there are many Truc Lam Zen Monasteries, you should visit here once. This is a place of study for monks and lay people.

– Giai Oan Bridge, Giai Oan Pagoda: Previously, when King Tran Nhan Tong took off his royal robes and put on a cassock, the king’s beautiful concubines wanted to go up the mountain to ask the king to return to the court but could not, so they threw themselves into the stream and committed suicide. Giai Oan Bridge and Giai Oan Pagoda are places of worship for women.

– Hue Quang Tower: This is also a destination on the Yen Tu pilgrimage route that you should stop at. A part of King Tran Nhan Tong’s relics is kept here, the remaining part is worshiped at Tran Nam Dinh temple. Here you can light incense and pay tribute.

– Hoa Yen Pagoda: On the way to Dong Pagoda on the top of Yen Tu Mountain, you will definitely have to pass Hoa Yen Pagoda. This is the largest pagoda in Yen Tu area, also known as Ca pagoda, Phu Van pagoda or Van Yen pagoda. The pagoda is located at an altitude of 543 m with rows of ancient trees that people believe were planted when King Tran Nhan Tong came to practice on Yen Tu.

– One Roof Pagoda: One Roof Pagoda is a place to worship Avalokiteśvara Buddha. Here you will see a stream of cool, drinkable water. This temple has a 3-compartment architecture, corresponding to 3 altars.

– Bao Sai Pagoda: This temple is where the Buddha entered nirvana.

– Van Tieu Pagoda: This is the place where monks practice.

– An Ky Sinh and the statue of Buddha Emperor Tran Nhan Tong: a statue of a petrified monk and a huge bronze Buddha statue.

– Dong Pagoda: Located at an altitude of 1,068m, it was built in the Later Le Dynasty with the name Thien Truc Tu. Today the pagoda has been restored and embellished a lot. The pagoda was cast in pure bronze with a length of 4.6m, a width of 3.6m, a height of 3.35m and a weight of more than 70 tons. This place is like a lotus platform worshiping Shakyamuni Buddha and the three founders of the Truc Lam Zen sect.

In addition to these destinations, on the way you will also encounter other attractions such as Golden Waterfall, Silver Waterfall… You will also be able to see with your own eyes the enchanting scenery as if you were in the middle of paradise. Although a bit tiring, Yen Tu is clearly a place worth spending 1-2 days sightseeing and sightseeing.
