1. History of formation and development of Leffe beer
Factory Leffe beer began when the Leffe monks of the Premonstratensian Order began growing hops, milling grain and brewing beer at the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Leffe in the Belgian province of Namur during the 13th century. After surviving the flood of Muese river in 1460 and then a great fire 6 years later, the brewery began to prosper in the 17th century. All five Leffe beers are now produced at Stella Artois’s much larger facility in Leuven with Abbaye Notre-Dame de Leffe receiving royalties from their sales.
